July 2012

In the good old summertime :)  Below is one of the tiny rainstorms this summer.  It has been a DRY summer.
 Napping with Daddy.
Movie star on the beach. :)  We headed to the beach the morning of the 4th of July.

That evening we went to dinner and then went to the park to watch fireworks.

The city of McAllen put on a nice fireworks display.
Playing in the tree, waiting for sundown.  This was Coby's first time seeing fireworks and his reaction was so sweet.  He was amazed and clapped after every one...for the first half of the show anyway.  For the second half he kept asking for milk and saying he wanted to go to bed. :s
KC took us fishing in the canal by our house.  Supposedly people catch fish there often.  Coby was really complaining about the heat (107 degrees) and didn't want to get out of his chair to fish.  I couldn't have agreed more!  The two of us escaped to the grocery store after half an hour.  Pearl and KC stayed to try their luck a little longer but didn't catch anything :(

I don't know why these next pictures are turned wrong and I can't figure out  how to correct them.  So just tilt your head :)  Pearl and Coby took swimming lessons at Aqua Tots for 6 weeks this summer (they were each awarded a ribbon for passing their class).  Pearl became an excellent swimmer.  So proud of her!! (Last summer she was so timid and scared of the water.)  Coby was too sad in the 3-yr-old class so I rescued him and went to the mommy and me class with him.  He became excellent at putting his ears in the water and floating on his back.  He was by far the biggest kid in his class but he was so proud that he could easily do everything without crying like all of the other babies ;)

One day after swim class we stopped by a pet store to look at the dogs.  Coby was thrilled.  Pearl stood on bench in fear and refused to come near this little dog. :)
Pearl and Coby have a book called "Gingerbread Friends" that has a gingerbread cookie recipe in it.  They have asked me several times if we could make the recipe...so we finally did.  We had a gingerbread day.  Made cookies and read "Gingerbread Friends", "The Gingerbread Boy", and "The Gingerbread Girl".  I actually really liked the recipe too!!
In "The Gingerbread Girl," the girl has a "wild wig" made of licorice. :)
Pearl had her first professional haircut in July.  I've trimmed her hair a little here and there but decided to let her get a trim while Coby was getting a haircut.  She was so proud of herself.  I was laughing at how she sat through the whole process with a smile on her face.  ;)

Handsome Coby ready for church.  I was proud of this cute little sweater vest I found on sale.  Then KC told me that he looked like Charley Brown.  :s  He kinda does.  :s  Oh well :)

This is Pearl and Coby with some friends from church at a swimming birthday party.  We went to the pool several times this summer with this same crowd.  SO fun!!  Sadly, two of these families already moved :(  (We live in a very transient area.)
