August 2013

Pearl started ballet at Susy's dance with some friends from church.

Celeste and her girls drove all the way from Lubbock to meet us at South Padre Island.  We spent 3 nights at the new Schlitterbahn Hotel.  Passes to the water park were included with the stay so we mastered every slide in the park and spent plenty of time on the beach too.  We visited the sea turtles as well.  :)

Since Pearl was starting kindergarten, I wanted to start the tradition of taking the kids "school clothes shopping."  I remember that being so fun through the years with my mom and sisters.  Coby and Pearl's version of school clothes shopping was a little different than I had envisioned.  We drove 30 minutes to the outlet malls.  We went to two stores and then they were ready to have ice cream and head home.

Date night with the kids.  One night KC and Coby had haircut appointments so we thought we would make a "date night" out of it.  Pearl chose to ride the train at the mall and chose this doll at the Disney Store.  KC told Coby they could go wherever he wanted after haircuts.  Coby chose Home Depot.  He lead KC straight to the section with chains and begged for a metal chain (he has been wanting one for months).  He also chose a carabiner and a glow-in-the-dark rope.  We found a box for his chain and he took that box everywhere with him for several days.  He even slept next to it. :s

A day trip to the island with friends from the ward.  I am becoming addicted to the island and on hot days (which is every day) I hear it calling me and I want drop everything and head to the beach.  Is that weird?

Post-church scooter ride and a birthday party at the pool for Pearl's best friend.

Coby loves the idea of fishing.  We spent a few hot evenings catching cat fish from the pond near our house.  Supposedly you can cook and eat them but we never have.  We are always feeding them dog food so they just don't sound that appetizing. :s

A bubbly bath

Spanish play time!  I thought it would be fun to have the kids do a Spanish play during the summer instead of take regular Spanish lessons.  So I recruited some kids from the ward and Katia the spanish teacher rehearsed with them once a week and then helped them put on a play at the end of the summer. It didn't turn out as well as I thought.  Since most of the kids couldn't read, memorizing a play in another language was especially difficult.  :s  They looked cute though.

Another day trip to the island to go to Schlitterbahn with Daddy and our friend Will.  They both crashed on the way home.

The week before school started we visited the "National Butterfly Center" which happens to be just down the road.  Was fun to see tons of butterflies and visit the random turtle that lives there as well.

Coby waited impatiently all day for KC to get home to go fishing pole shopping at Academy.  Since he got his pole he has spent hours in our front yard practicing his cast.  And we have spent a lot of time with the ladder getting his line out of the trees :s  We hope to catch some fish in the ocean this winter.

Making cupcakes with friends the week before school started.

Meet the teacher night.  I might have cried on our way to the school.  :s  Pearl's teacher is Ms. Hinojosa.

If you take KC to the mall, the whole family might end up with awesome LeBron James shoes.

Pearly's first day of kindergarten.  She was a little nervous but happy.  I walked her to her class and left her sitting on the rug in a group of crying girls.  She was trying to hold their hands and cheer them up.  I held it together until I got to the car.  So hard leaving her there!!

Sympathy flowers from KC who knew I was sad on the first day of school.  A nice lady in the ward brought me flowers that day too.  So sweet!
Coby going to meet the teacher day at Lynn Flowers Preschool.  His teacher is Ms. Joyce.  His preschool started after labor day.  He goes Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 to noon.

Doing his best to keep busy without Pearl around.  Those are clothes pins on his shorts.  Two afternoons during Pearl's first week of school he took a nap, which he hadn't done in over 6 months.  He misses Pearly and starts asking me at 9:00 if it almost time to pick her up from school :(

  2. Ha! I feel your pain with the whole kindergarten thing. Caroline wakes up every day asking for Emily. It's hard. But Emily is LOVING it. Does Colby start next year or does he still have two more years? How close are you guys to the beach? And it sounds like you just whip on over to that island every day. Is it hard to get there? It looks like a lot of fun. I think we have the complete inverse weather system here. And lol about the back to school clothes shopping. Remember how we'd all lay out our clothes and go from one house to the next to see everyone's awesome clothes? I was always jealous of Kelsey's... i shopped at the likes of burlington coat factory while she shopped at the Gap and such places.
