April 2011

KC and Pearl watching General Conference. The first weekend of April was General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Twice each year the prophet, President Monson, his counselors and other church leaders give wonderful messages that inspire and uplift. They speak from Salt Lake City and we are able to watch the live broadcast online. We spent several hours listening to their messages. I enjoyed all of the talks so much and need to finish re-reading them!! Really neat messages!!
Happy Birthday KC!! KC turned 32 on April 5th. Pearl and Coby were SO excited the entire day, waiting for Daddy to come home from work to have cake and open presents.
A beautiful homemade cake :)
Pearl and Coby each got KC a kite for his birthday. After dinner we headed to the park to try them out. They worked great!! Lubbock is SOOOO windy in the spring. Perfect kite-flying weather!!

Rocking my babies at bedtime. Have I ever mentioned how much I love these two little people?
Pearl's last dance class. Pearl absolutely loved her 8-week dance class at the community center. The teacher let the moms stay and take pictures during the last class. Above is her teacher Abby. Pearl changed her favorite doll's name to Abby a few weeks into dance. :) Above they are flapping their legs like butterfly wings and going different places. When it was Pearl's turn to pick the place, she said she wanted to fly to "Califownia." (Pearl can't say her r's :)
Meanwhile, Coby, strapped in his stroller for obvious reasons, was following the stretching instructions as well.
During each class, Abby spent a few minutes reading them a book about dancing, which Pearl loved. After the story they played follow the leader. When it was Pearl's turn and the teacher asked her what she wanted to do, Pearl said "Run around the room and yell AAAAAA!" So that's what they did. I was proud. :s At the end of each class the teacher gets out a mat as a "stage" and they get to take turns "dancing" in the center while everyone else watches. At the end of this post is a short video clip of Pearl on stage. (Not sure why it wouldn't post the clip here like I wanted it). Anyway, I had to include it because it really made me laugh.
Coloring Eggs!! Coby thought plopping the eggs into the dye was hilarious. He did it again and again and died laughing each time. Of course by the time I got out the video camera it wasn't funny anymore. Why does that always happen?? Needless to say, most of our colored eggs ended up cracked.
Pearl and Coby's good friend Ella turned 4 this month and had a party at Jump and Jungle. The kids had a blast!
I should have taken of picture and put it here of KC on the day of his big test. Each year in April the residents have a huge board test. KC studied hard for his test and was SO relieved when it was over. The day after the test, he took a week off and we headed to McAllen to look at houses and have a little family vacation. I believe I mentioned before that we found a house when KC and I went to McAllen in February. Well, we ended up not being able to close on the house until May, so the builder sold it to someone else who offered more money in cash. :s So, we were back to square one and had to go house hunting again. We decided to drive to McAllen this time (11 hours) and pull a Uhaul trailor behind us with some of our stuff to put in a storage garage there. We broke up the trip by stopping in San Antonio for a night each way. Pearl and Coby were very good in the car, considering the long trip. They were so excited to be going on vacation!!
Coby pictured in his car seat with his two favorite items: Benji Dog and Penguin Blanky.
We were a little shocked at the 100 degree temperature when we got out of the truck in McAllen. 100 degrees and 80% humidity!

Pearl and Coby were very helpful unloading the Uhaul. Yes, that is a potty seat on her head. :s They broke into my sucker stash while I wasn't looking.
Sure was nice to get to the air-conditioned motel!
We spent a few days looking at houses and ended up finding one that was being built that was near the one we liked the last time. The inside wasn't started yet so we got to pick tile, countertops, cabinets, and fixtures. It should be finished by the end of May or first part of June. We are so excited and can't wait to see how it turns out!! We will move the end of June.

After signing house papers, we headed to South Padre Island for a few nights. Fun times at the beach!! It was about 90 degrees there and the water was a comfortable temperature.

KC brought his new kites. :)
We visited an aquarium where they let the kids pick up hermit crabs, as well as feed some fish and turtles. Pearl thought it was really great!
Coby wasn't sure about little legs wiggling out of the shell. Look how curly his hair got in the humidity! Looks like a perm!!
A little seafood restaurant that was pretty good. Lucky for Pearl, hot dog was on the menu. They brought her the biggest hot dog I'd ever seen...and she ate the entire thing!
We took a little tour boat out to look for dolphins and cruise around the bay. We actually saw quite a few dolphins!

When we stopped in San Antonio on the way home, our motel was next a miniature golf course so we tried it. Pearl and Coby's patience for the game lasted about 8 holes. :)
Happy Easter!! I forgot to mention that, the day we left on our little trip, Pearl had pink eye. She spread it to me and Coby. That was our first experience with pink eye and I was glad to have an ophthalmologist on board, monitoring our condition. :) When we returned home the night before Easter, Coby still had pink eye so we didn't take him to church. KC went for the first church meeting and then Pearl and I went to the rest. I had to dress up like Mary Magdalene for a little primary skit they were doing for the primary kids. It was neat to review the accounts of the resurrection in the Bible in preparation for my part. How amazing and wonderful is the atonement and resurrection of our Savior!!

Despite Coby's pink eye, we had a nice Easter Sunday. Pearl and Coby were so excited about their Easter baskets and finding eggs hidden in the back yard.
