Sugar and Spice vs. Snakes and Snails
Pearl had another 45-minute Wee Sports class this week. This time they did basketball. When the teacher brought out full-size basketballs, I knew Pearl was in trouble. They started out by stretching and running around to warm up. Pearl was very good at the running around part ;) Next they paired up and were suppose to pass the ball back and forth. Did I mention that Pearl's class consists of Pearl, her friend Ella, and 6 boys? Anyway, so Pearl was paired with Ella and they were standing about 3 feet apart. Ella lightly tossed the ball to Pearl and the poor girl didn't even have the sense to put her hands out to catch it. It hit her right in the belly and she cried. That taught her to put her hands up. The next time put her arms out but closed her eyes. The ball rolled up her arms and hit her in the nose and she cried again. Ella and Pearl were both so hesitant and awkward as they struggled mightily to pass the ball back and forth. Meanwhile, 6 little boys were passing the ball back and forth with ease, enjoying themselves immensely. Next came dribbling. I think Pearl and Ella tried once or twice and the ball rolled away without one dribble. My jaw dropped as I watched those little boys dribble basketballs. They were awesome. Dribbling and walking. Switching hands. Whoa. I seriously couldn't believe how coordinated they were! Next Pearl started whining because her 'legs were tired' and Ella started crying because she was cold or she was afraid of the basketballs (I can't remember which she finally said it was). Needless to say, my friend Heather (Ella's mom) and I got quite a kick out of the display of some stereotypical differences between girls and boys. :)
