October 2011

I can't believe October is already over!! The last part of the year always seems to fly. This is KC attempting to watch General Conference on TV. (Twice each year the prophet and apostles from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints speak from Salt Lake City on a variety of topics.) It was a great conference!! We still need to re-watch or read the parts that we weren't able to catch for one reason (Pearl) or another (Coby) ;)
Our ward went to San Antonio to attend the temple there. Sadly, the above picture was the only one I got on the trip. KC was in charge of arranging the trip. A lot of us brought our kids and stayed overnight in San Antonio. A few of the dads went to the temple early and then watched kids at the nearby church while everyone else did a session. It was great to be in the temple again! That is one thing I really miss about Lubbock.
This witch door hanger has literally provided hours of entertainment at our house. My mom gave it to me a few years ago. Pearl and Coby ran from it and hid it all month long. It was so funny.
They instructed me to make this sign for them. I was specifically instructed to write "get" instead of "let." Below they are chanting "Don't get the witch out," as she is locked in a cupboard.

Playing at a little park about 4 houses down from us. The October weather was really nice.
My two little princesses!
"Bat pumpkin" and "ghost-face pumpkin."
Another trip to South Padre Island. My friends here were teasing me this month about how often we head to the beach. This trip had a specific purpose though: we were trying to get a family picture for our Christmas card this year. We wanted to do an evening picture but we got stuck in traffic and arrived after dark. It was fun to walk on the beach by the moonlight though.

I liked this picture of the two of them.
Most of the family pictures turned out about like this. :s
On October 17, Pearl, Coby, and I headed to Utah. KC would join us there the next week to go hunting with his dad. This is Pearl on the airplane, pouting because she had a sore in her mouth and couldn't drink her juice. (She is SO sensitive and SO dramatic!!) This picture was on the plane to SLC. This was after we were told by a Continental worker that we could never make our connecting flight from Houston to SLC (our flight out of McAllen was re-routed to San Antonio due to lack of fuel and then flew to Houston...so we arrived in Houston LATE). We had 10 minutes before our flight was to leave Houston so I decided to just make a run for it and try, knowing that then next flight didn't leave for 6 hours and would arrive in SLC about midnight. Of course this was the first time I didn't bring my double stroller with me to the airport. :s With Coby in an umbrella stroller and pearl crying as I drug her behind me, we ran for it. The Houston airport is HUGE. I finally sat Pearl in the umbrella stroller and put Coby on her lap, which didn't work out very well because I kept running over their feet and they were both crying. Three elevators, one shuttle, and one tram later, we arrived at our gate...only to find out that our connecting flight would be delayed over two hours. Grrrrr.
Coby playing with his airplane, just before he fell asleep for most of the 3 hour flight. Phew!
We spent our first evening in Utah at my friend Jocelyn's house. We have been friends since before elementary school. A few of my other best friends from Price also live near SLC so they were able to come over and have dinner. Jocelyn is an interior decorator/party planner so, of course, what was suppose to be a simple dinner, was over the top fun and nice. It was a really fun evening.

The next day we headed to Heber, Utah and spent the night at KC's sister Kim's home. Kim and Tom have four kiddos with one on the way! We had never stayed overnight there before and we had a really nice time. She is such a great mom and the cousins had a blast playing together. Above is Coby making sure he was right by Bentley (his only boy cousin) the entire time.
Pearl and Coby with cousins Ali and Abigail. Ali is one year older than Pearl and Abigail is three months younger than Coby. They played really well together.
From Heber we drove to South Jordan, Utah to meet my sisters new baby girl: Aubrey Jean Moore. She was born October 15 and weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces. She is such a little doll. Pearl and I got to be her first babysitters while Shilo and Mom did some shopping. Can you tell Pearl is proud?

From South Jordan we headed to Price where both KC's parents and my parents live. We made delicious "spiders" at Gram's house. :)
Gram (KC's mom) and I took 6 children to Walmart. Good thing we only needed a few things!!
Bethani (KC's sister) with all the kids in the tee-pee at the Dinosaur Museum.
Happy 4th Birthday Pearl!!
I gave Pearl the option of having her 4th birthday party in Utah with all of her cousins or having it in McAllen. Hands down, she chose Utah. So on October 23rd (the morning after KC flew in), all the family gathered in West Jordan at Jump 'N Bounce for jumping and pizza. Pearl loved it and so did the cousins. There were several of us who came down with colds a few days following the party though. It is hard to go to fun kid places and not pick up germs. :s
Pearl and Coby watched Mickey Mouse Space Adventure on TV last month and have been obsessed with rockets and outer space ever since. Thus, when the choices of rooms included a space room, she knew immediately that she wanted that one. It really was a cute room, with strobe lights and glow-in-the-dark paint.

My parents at Jump 'N Bounce with their 6 grandchildren!!
Back in Price, Pearl and Laura made their own pile of leaves after church and spent quite a while jumping over them.
This is the huge garden of my sister Mindy (who also lives in Price now). They had fun gathering tomatoes.
My dad wanted to take the kids to a little pond outside of Price to throw rocks. It was a beautiful day. I really enjoyed feeling the crisp fall air and wearing jackets for the first time this year.
Pearl and I also got to babysit Lydia (3 months) while Mindy went to the dentist. She was actually much happier with Pearl than she was with me (much to Pearl's delight).
Pearl found a big stick outside and we made a Ghost tree!! I should have included here a picture of KC and his dad with the deer they shot hunting, but by that time, my camera had run out of batteries. They ended up shooting a four-point and coming back to Price a few days before we flew home to McAllen.
Home for Halloween!! Ready to trick or treat around our neighborhood with some friends. (Coby refused to let me paint his face blue.) Pearl really got into trick-or-treating this year and Coby really got into eating the candy. :)

  1. I can just visualize the tear through the airport... been there done that, but not to that extent! I flew home with the kiddos on my own from KS to Monterey. Good times. I can't believe your parents have six grandkids!!! I wish I could have joined up with you guys at Jocelyn's. You're always welcome to come out here! It'd be a free vacation (once you got here of course).
