KC and Coby doing yard work.
Coby was completely thrilled to be helping.
KC graduates from Ophthalmology residency!! June 17th was the graduation dinner and program. His parents flew to Lubbock for it and we were so happy to have them stay with us a few days. I cannot even describe how happy I was the day of the graduation dinner! I seriously thought I might burst with happiness and I couldn't stop smiling all day. I just kept thinking that no matter what challenges are up ahead for us (I'm sure there will be many), at least this challenge was over!!! We made it through 10 years of training and we are still happily married and hopefully better and stronger for the experience. I'm sure the sacrifice was worth the good training KC got and the good job that he will have. KC says he won't answer that question for a few years. Worth it or not, we're done!! Yay!!
They had a nice dinner and program to honor the 3 graduating residents: KC, Blake, and Brian. During part of the program KC, Blake, and Brian roasted the faculty with a hilarious video. They filmed it at the clinic and dressed up like and imitated different doctors during surgery and clinic. From my brief encounters with the faculty and the stories from the residents, I thought they did a great job. Quite some interesting characters on staff there! The video was hilarious.
Happy Father's Day!! We were able to spend Father's Day with KC and his Dad, which was special. We went to church and had dinner before Karl and Trieste headed back to Utah. KC's Father's Day gift to his dad was the keys to the truck KC bought earlier this year. We decided we didn't want to take a 4-wheel-drive truck to the border of Mexico again (had our last truck stolen in El Paso). KC couldn't think of a better home for his truck than with his dad. He has fond memories of driving in the mountains with his dad and knew the truck would get good use in Utah. KC told his dad about it a month or so in advance. So they flew into Lubbock and then drove the truck back to Utah.
Good-bye table. :( This table belonged to my great-grandmother, Edna Pearl Gerber. KC and I have been using it since we got married. We decided to leave it behind and found a home for it with a family that needed a table. I had to blog it's picture so I wouldn't forget what it looked like. We left several items behind when we moved. This was the only one difficult to leave.
All packed up.
Not much to play with at our house towards the end of the month.
A few last-minute repairs.
HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY!!!
The night before the moving truck came, KC and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. We got Olive Garden to go and had a picnic dinner in our living room. Our last night in our house, our tenth anniversary, the end of residency. Lots to celebrate!! I can't believe KC has been training to be a doctor the entire 10 years we have been married! What a journey!! Wonder what the next ten years will bring?
On to Utah!! Coby and Pearl were excited beyond belief to be going to Utah. KC met the moving truck in McAllen while the kids and I flew to Utah. Coby had to have a ticket for this flight since he had just turned two. I was quite perturbed that the stewardess wouldn't let him sit on my lap as long as the seat belt sign was on, which was pretty much the entire flight. She said it wasn't safe for him. I actually brought up the fact that if the flight would have been 1 month prior, he would be sitting on my lap as a lap child and they wouldn't be concerned at all about his safety. That didn't change her mind. After take-off, I took him out of his seat belt anyway and held him while he slept. Felt perfectly safe to me!
Love all your posts! Keep them coming!! I will try to get back on track...eventually. :) congrats again to you and KC on all the recent accomplishments. Soo very excited for you both and can't wait to see what the future brings you! Hope to see you guys again soon! We must find a way...
