May 2011

For those of you new to this blog, please pardon my very long, monthly posts. I've decided to use my blog as our family album/journal. I thought if I could just post a few pictures each month and mention a few things going on, it would serve its purpose for me.

This month has been pretty quiet. Whenever our time is winding down in a certain place (we have lived 7 places in the last 10 years) I find myself doing a lot of reflecting. I have been reflecting on this house (our first house) that we bought as a repo and fixed up. I love this house because we (mostly KC) put a lot of work into it. I love this house because it is where I brought Coby home from the hospital and where I really learned how to be a mom. (We moved here when Pearl was 10 months old). I think every mom has their own style and balance in motherhood and that it takes a while to find. I found my happy balance/style here in this house and I will always have sweet, sweet memories of taking care of my babies here. Ahhh, enough reminiscing. KC and I always joke that I love to talk about the past and that he loves to talk about the future. Maybe that is what happens when the present is a little rough. It has been a difficult three years for KC and I as residency life has been quite overwhelming at times. So, while I'll always have fond memories of our time in Lubbock, I'm excited to move on as well!!

All aboard!! One day at the library a worker randomly gave Pearl and Coby conductor hats and train whistles. They turned the couch into a train and went to Hawaii, Utah, California, and McAllen, TX. They played train for quite some time and it made me laugh to hear Pearl as the conductor yell "All aboawd!!"

Can you say drought? Lubbock has had almost no rain at all this entire spring. The town is not green at all, just scorching yellow grass everywhere. :s We pulled up this dead tree from our yard and Coby carried it around for quite a while. I'm not sure if we can blame the dead tree on the drought entirely, since we didn't water it once all winter...but maybe some rain would have saved the poor thing!

Pearl playing with a doll that she named "Daddy." KC has been gone to Big Spring, TX a lot this month so this doll took his place on several occasions. Pearl sleeps with it/him most nights. KC is on his last 8-week rotation at the VA hospital in Big Spring. He leaves home Sunday nights to drive to Big Spring and then comes back home Thursday nights. We REALLY miss him when he is gone!!We had an Alliance playgroup at Fire Station #9 again this year. They were just beginning their presentation when they got called out on an emergency. It was kinda neat to see them rush away with their lights on in response to the call. The kids ran around outside and circled the tree until they came back.

Fresh out of the tub and eating hot dogs for a bedtime snack. :) Why hot dogs are their protein of choice, I will never know. :sWe are packing boxes little by little in preparation for our move the end of June. Sometimes I think it is more difficult trying to choose just the things we won't need for a while to pack than it would be to just wait til the end and pack everything at once. Maybe I will be thankful that some of it is done when that time comes though.

Pearl and Coby wanted to go for a walk so I told them to go put on their shoes. This is how they came out.
Their first race!! One Saturday this month our church had a fun run to collect food for the local food bank. (Admission to the race was a bag of food). I thought Pearl and Coby would have fun running along. Pearl loved it!
Coby, on the other, requested to be carried the whole way. I was glad KC was there to carry him!! There is a short video clip of Pearl running at the end of this post that I thought was cute.

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY COBY!!!
After much pleading on my part, my mom came to visit us the last week of May. We decided to celebrate Coby's birthday on Memorial Day since Grandma was here and Daddy had the day off work. Grandma helped me make Coby a tractor cake. There were so many cute cake ideas and I couldn't decide which one to make. I really liked the tractor though and couldn't think of a more appropriate place to have a tractor cake than Lubbock, Texas. ;) We opened presents in the morning. We had a BBQ and cake in the early evening and then went swimming at the Texas Tech splash pool.
A few favorites at age two:
Favorite food: Corn on the cob
Favorite treat: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
Favorite things to sleep with: Penguin Blanky and Benji Dog
Favorite activities: Reading books, playing in the sandbox, and watering the flowers and grass.
Something unusual: Coby is very polite. He says please and thank you. Today he said "Thank you for that hambur-bun (hamburger) you bought for me." I don't know where he learned it...definitely not from Pearl! ;)

Thank you all for the fun gifts for Coby's birthday. He LOVED playing with all of his new toys. I think the weed-eater took the cake as his favorite though. He literally played with it all day long. I have never seen a child more thrilled with a toy. He kept saying "Now I have a weed-eater just like Daddy!!"
Pearly's race.

Groovin' at Wendy's. I didn't mean to post both of these clips but couldn't figure out how to delete one of them. The bottom one is the best. ;)

  1. I am absolutely loving your monthly posts!!! And Camden too- she has been asking almost every single day to "watch Pearl dancing!"- she lovesthat video of Pearl dancing at dance class. And today, we have watched the videos of the kids dancing at Wendy's five times so far... :). "I watch that again"

    Miss you!

  2. Brigette! Packing is no fun, that's for sure. Seven places in ten years? That's a little rough. I can relate somewhat. We're going on our sixth move in five years. I didn't know KC was gone so much... I mean overnight gone! That's never easy having to be the one to do everything at night... prepare dinner, clean up dinner, put kids to bed... and then when you have a little time to yourself you can only sit and vege. That's what I'm going through right now as Ben is gone for two weeks. I also loved our first house in TN. It was perfect for us and I remember thinking I wish I could've brought it with us. You know, just move to the new city but bring the house with you. You'll always have those sweet memories with you. But, you're right, onto greener pastures (literally)! I"m excited for your next phase in life. Your kids are adorable, btw.
